Visioneering & Exponential Action
Happy Thursday! This week builds upon our discussion of "what is vision" and leads us further into why vision matters. Remember, visioneering never ends. No one is "an expert" visionary. Visioning is a dynamic process, full of hard work, shortcomings, and continuous maturation. The key = never stop seeking vision clarity with your team!
"WHAT THE EYES CANNOT SEE, THE HEART CANNOT FEEL."
Vision - Inspiring Emotion and Action
In Andy Stanley's Visioneering Part 1 he discusses the why of visioning. In particular, Stanley notes that a vision should:
1. Inspire the Heart
2. Begin as a burden that must be addressed
3. Motivate others throw their life behind it
What does this mean for each of us as leaders?
If we are Dedicated to our Community we must continue to seek depth within our vision. The depth of your team's motivation expands with vision clarity.
Example District Vision Need = Learning Design
Currently, across the district we are working to better align our purpose, NPowering Lives, Excavating GIfts, with a deeper vision for designing learning experiences. While our shared purpose and PRIDE values are an essential building block, aligning student experiences with Unite People, Place, & Purpose is complex and layered work that demands vision. I share this as an example of where our vision is in its infancy and demands my personal leadership and action to ensure we grow.
Think of the relationship between vision and building capacity to act like this.
In Visioneering Part 2 Stanley not only discusses the power of vision but the impact of not having vision alignment. Moving from isolation, silos, and individual self-preservation to shared leadership and continuous growth, our shared leadership continuum helps to frame the power of shared vision.
Two questions to consider..
Where do you have clarity as it relates to your team?
What role must you play in developing that clarity?
